Meta has rolled out its generative AI feature, Imagine Me, in India, allowing users to transform themselves into imaginative avatars using simple text prompts. After a limited rollout in countries like Brazil, the UK, and the Philippines, the tool is now officially available to Indian users via Instagram and Facebook.
What Is Meta’s ‘Imagine Me’?
Imagine Me is an AI-powered feature integrated into Meta’s chat platforms. It allows users to reimagine themselves in fun, creative avatars—anything from a retro Bollywood star to a space cricketer—just by typing a prompt like “Imagine me as a 90s Bollywood star” or “Imagine me as a superhero in Tokyo.”
How to Use ‘Imagine Me’ in India
To get started, users can message Meta AI via Instagram, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp. However, the avatar generation feature currently functions only on Instagram and Facebook for Indian users.
Here’s how it works:
- Upload Setup Photos: You’ll need to upload three images showing your face from the front, left, and right profiles to help the AI understand your appearance.
- Type Your Prompt: Once the setup is complete, send a prompt like “Imagine me as a time-travelling scientist” and the AI will generate a stylised avatar based on your input.
- Customise Further: If you're not happy with the result, you can modify the prompt, re-upload your photos, or disable the feature entirely.
Watermarks and Privacy Controls
To maintain transparency, all AI-generated images will feature a visible watermark reading “Imagined with AI.” Meta has also confirmed ongoing efforts to expand labelling of all AI-generated content, in line with its updated content authenticity policies.
